This is a fine example of a transitional form of the medieval Sallet helm before the introduction of the Armet helmet.

Our Late Roman Ridge Helmet is a typical light infantry helmet. The ridge helmet is based on the similar "ridge" helmets of the Sassanian Perisan empire. This helmet gets it's name from the central reinforcing band holding the two halves together.
